Russell revisiting sentimental territory
Plus Fitness Supercars rookie Aaren Russell will return to the scene of some pivotal moments in his fledgling career at Winton Motor Raceway this weekend.
The circuit in north-eastern Victoria was Novocastrian Motorsport’s Dunlop
Series test track for a number of years, and where Russell drove a V8
Supercar for the first time.
It was also where Russell turned his maiden laps in the car he shared with
older brother Drew in last year’s Bathurst 1000.
More recently, in February, Winton was the scene of Russell’s first taste of
life as a Supercars driver and his Plus Fitness Commodore.
Now five events into his Erebus Motorsport campaign, Russell is keen to build
on what he has learned so far in the championship this weekend, and use his
Winton experience to help on his learning curve.
The event starts with a pair of 60-minute practice sessions this Friday,
before another 15-minute practice session, qualifying and 40-lap race on
Saturday.
Another 20-minute qualifying session on Sunday morning will set the grid for
that afternoon’s 67-lap race.
AAREN RUSSELL - #4 PLUS FITNESS COMMODORE
“Winton has been part of a lot of great memories over the years, including
driving my Plus Fitness Commodore for the first time in a test in February.
“It’s a race meeting I always enjoyed while racing in the Dunlop Series, we
have some family living in the area, so it’s great to see them and welcome
them to the track and feel that extra level of support.
“I feel like we made good progress over the course of the weekend at
Barbagallo Raceway, and while there's still a lot of work to do, I'm
confident that everything is moving in the right direction.
“Coming to another track I know will be good to consolidate that, any time I
can take an unknown out of the equation it definitely helps, so I’m looking
forward to another productive weekend and building on that.”
